Colorado Certified Emergency Manager Program

The certification program is a peer evaluation program that measures an applicant’s education, training, experience and professional contribution. It provides an emergency manager the ability to be recognized for their abilities, increases marketability in career opportunities, aligns with the International Association of Emergency Managers certification program and increases the overall professional standards of the discipline. This certification is granted for a period of five (5) years, at which time you will need to apply for recertification.


The Colorado certification process offers 2 levels of certification.

  • Colorado Certified Emergency Manager - As a Colorado Certified Emergency Manager, you are henceforth permitted to use the trademarked designations “Colorado Certified Emergency Manager” or “CO-CEM” after your name, and before or after academic degrees and other professional certifications that you may hold.
  • Colorado Associate Emergency Manager – As a Colorado Associate Emergency Manager, you henceforth permitted to use the trademarked designations “Colorado Associate Emergency Manager” or “CO-AEM’ after your name, and before or after academic degrees and other professional certification that you may hold.

All packages must be submitted electronically via the CEMA website, in one single PDF file of under 100MB. All fees must be paid before the package will be reviewed.


Certification fees:

  • $50.00  (CEMA Members)
  • $100.00 (Non-Members)
